LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT is part of the NBC LAW & ORDER franchise. This show centers on the NYPD’s Major Case Squad in its efforts to stop the worst criminal offenders in New York. In CRIMINAL INTENT, the crimes are shown as they are planned and committed, unlike the other LAW & ORDER series.
Matt appears in season 5, episodes 6 and 7 “In the Wee Small Hours,” originally airing back to back on November 6, 2005. In this first part of a two-part episode, a girl and two boys go missing from a school trip. Partners Logan (Chris Noth) and Barek (Annabella Sciorra) team up with Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) to find them. The trail leads the detectives to the sexual predator, Ethan Garrett (Matt O’Leary) who likes to brag about his exploits in his Internet blog, and who turns out to be rather well-connected. This was the first time all four detectives were featured in an episode.
In Part II, The squad continues the investigation into the murder of a teenage girl visiting from Iowa. The detectives uncover the sordid family life of a local judge (Colm Meaney) whose son, Ethan, is linked to the Iowa teenager and another victim. Goren and Logan discover that the judge is a formidable foe as they come under scrutiny. Opposit of the rest of the LAW & ORDER franchise, this episode includes the one of very few trial scenes in the show. Everyone does a pheonominal job in their respected roles, and it is no wonder why the Wolf Films submitted these episodes for consideration for a 2006 Emmy nomination.
